Randolph Hoppe of the Jack Kirby Museum & Research Center tipped me off that the mystery author was notable comic historian and artist Arlen Schumer. Either way, go and visit the Jack Kirby Museum website! It's got so much awesome stuff and the gifts they give to donors are top notch. The museum is endorsed by Kirby's family and is not a slave to the corporate comic world.

MoCCA 2009 was really fun. I'm worried I may give off creepy fan vibe with my sense of humor when I talk to artists I dig. Next time I go to one of these dealies, I'll try and cut down the amount I talk during them... and be creepy with silence? Or maybe I'm misreading the discomfort of the fatigue of sitting in a very hot and humid hall with no ventilation.
Lessee, tried out a bunch of mini comics, haven't read them all yet. I've seen Sabin's name floating around and I got a mini comic anthology featuring his stuff. It looks gorgeous. Like a hybrid of Bob Burden and Los Bros.
Met Dave Roman and we talked about turbo teen FAAAAAAAR too much and then we confused each other on finances.
Met Chris Hastings of Dr. McNinja and got the comics from him. As much as I adore it, they were very hard to read online until he switched to color. Got a McNinja sketch (to be expected) and a Gordito sketch. You have to admire a boy who can grow a mustache through will power alone.
Compulsory stop by Evan Dorkin, Sarah Dyer and their daughter. How cute, their daughter recognized me from last time I went to a con she was at. I wanted to see if she was up for trading drawings again but she was absorbed in a DS. Picked up art and t-shirts I bought off of him and then got a nice sketch between him and table neighbor Christine Norrie (because Sarah has been injured horribly) of the Murder Family's Georgina vs Action Girl. Yeah, I think I'm probably scaring them by always dropping by their table but seriously, I enjoy the energy, skill and writing of Evan's work, serious or comedy. Sarah's briefly lived Action Girl anthology was also awesome (I want to do something like this. Hey, who wants to be in an anthology?). That and if you drop in at JUST the right moment, Evan may go off on something and it'll be one of the funniest damn things you'll hear come out of a human's mouth. He claims it's a Brooklyn thing.
Met Dylan Meconis and was pleased as punch that she's an action girl fan, too. Must remember to buy more stuff from her. Good stuff.
Grabbed some more Jacob Chabot comics. I adore his work. Cute but tight and mature humor but not blatantly obscene. Why is this guy not featured doing more stuff?
Saw Box Brown and Liz Baillie again. It makes me feel almost legit when people recognize me but then again Baillie pointed out I'm amongst her regular fans, so it's hard not to be recognized. Box paid me a fantastic compliment by assuming I draw my mouse comics by physically first and then make them look mouse drawn. Nope, all mousing. (BUY HIS NEW BOOK! Buy Liz's new comics, too!)
Yelled at the Evil Twin Comics guys to hurry up with Action President.
Oh, well this may be considered creepy fan thing. At my first visit to MoCCA (I think it was the 2nd MoCCA fest), I had just seen Jeph Jacques post a picture on his LJ of his reaction to romantic images made of two of his male characters. I thought it was hilarious, then, "How can I top it"? I had posted the image here but apparently Deviant Art doesn't like penises. It was an image of his character Faye revealed as a dominatrix shemale with a bukkaked sissy slave Marten on his knees in high rubber boots and a speedo with a leashed collar. Faye explains that they can not date but they can still do their Saturday night thing. Sorry, Deviant art, I didn't realize this was bad, despite following your guidelines. I gave a print of that to him (which Kinkos had screwed up and accidentally printed double sided). I recall the mirth I had walking away as I heard him cry, "I can't even put it face down!" Today I showed him an idea I had on my way over but didn't complete. Let's just say it involves one of Marten's favorite mythical beasts... and Marten. He lol'd. And apparently someone urinated on his shoes last night.
Oh yes, you may have heard reports that it was somewhat hot over there. Well, I'll have you know I was running around in my leather armor as usual... and may have successfully lost a great deal of water weight from sweating like crazy.

I did manage to finish off the sketch a day in may after all! Yay! Go look! Also, don't forget, MoCCA this weekend. Your favorite Happypeepeehead will be there... as a visitor. If you actually see me, don't be afraid to say hi. I will most likely be pestering Evan Dorkin.

Sonnuva... why is it May 20th? I need to get cracking on that Sketch A Day in May crap.
Unrelated: Oh hi, I'll be at MoCCA Art Fest...... as a visitor... cause you should know that I'm not someone who actually does grownup comics. :S
I don't know what's up with them but they seem to be lazier this year or (more likely) too understaffed to list the major attendees. I wanna know who they have up for the sketch tables. I know some of my perennial favorites will be there like Evan Dorkin and family, Liz Baillie, Box Brown and some other fine folks who give me freebies or nice discounts. I have no plans to harm Jeph Jacques' eyes again this year.

Oh geez. It's May! You know what that means? Sketch-A-Day May! I'll catch up and share my stuff. I technically I think I am caught up due to all the doodling I was doing in court today instead of thinking of decent defenses.

...why does it take this long to end a traffic ticket case? Are they testing to see if I'll chicken out? Unrelated: ever find yourself fighting very to not smack the asses of your coworkers? What?
